What Is Too Kawaii to Die?

It’s a non-profit comics and illustration zine with the theme of cute meets scary, stupid, strange, sad, and serious. Traditionally we add a pinch of bitter anime memories to the brew but it’s not required. You don’t have to be anime to work here, but it helps!

The zine is also printed and sold at cost via on demand printers. Visit this blog’s “Buy” page for links to the first 2 issues (3rd issue is coming in some form soon).

What should submissions be? And in what format?

Submissions can be comics or illustrations. You can submit as many things as you’d like, multiple images or comics. If your comic is over 7 pages, let me know so we can make sure you’re not crowding anyone out.

Pages should be 7” wide X 10.5” and 300 DPI (or more)

When is the deadline?

The deadline is July 15th

If it’s close to the deadline and you’re not sure you’re going to make it. Contact me, things can be worked out!

Feel free to contact me just to declare your intent to submit, it’s nice knowing who is planning to. I try very hard to keep in contact with all interested artists.

In the case that there are too many submissions for the print edition, the rest will all be in the digital version. This was not a problem last time as anticipated, so don’t let it scare you off.

Woah woah woah it’s that time again. Draw something for this, all you followers who make art things! Do it! The more goopy and monstrous the better.  

I am not an animator. 

Wow look’it that I raised dragonflies. Remember when I talked about that little aquatic insect workshop I did about a month ago? Well the little buggies lived. Unluckily for them that was only until the dragonfly nymphs got hungry. They pretty much ate everything in the water with them. Luckily for US though, some of the dragonflies have started molting. This is one that I caught alive before he drowned in the water in the nymph container. Unfortunately, we don’t really have the means to feed or house flying predatory insects at the lab, so I had to let him go. It was a pretty windy week, so I hope he’s alright where ever he is.

Uh, no. No because no one has ever asked me to do an art trade before. No one talks to me! 

Would I like to? Yes sure! School’s pretty much over so I have the time. I have no idea how the business of an art trade goes about, though. Haw. 

‘Nother try at the lizard. This time with normal line art but attempted coloring. Manga Studio 4 ex doesn’t have a clipping mask what gives. I hear MS5 does though…. 

Oh no I’m so embarrassed thank you. I’m glad you like my silly stuff.

This and the lizard guy are actually based on some of Zach’s  dumb character doodles. Transparent stuff is hard to color, guys.
